EVENT OVERVIEW

The MENA Climate Proof Forum, scheduled for October 28 – 29, 2024, in Dubai, U.A.E., is strategically designed to confront the significant challenges arising from climate change in the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region. Recent extreme weather events, notably Dubai’s severe flooding, have emphasised the urgent need for action in strengthening preparedness, readiness, and recovery from climate-related disasters. This pivotal event encompasses a wide scope, including stormwater and flood management, heatwaves, wildfires, and tornadoes, all of which have profound impacts on ecosystems, wildlife habitats, and human communities.

At the core of this groundbreaking initiative is the exploration of diverse and innovative solutions to address the region’s wide-ranging challenges resulting from extreme weather events. Discussions will center around the development of short-term and long-term strategies, this includes advanced weather forecasting systems to improve readiness, responsive disaster management solutions, robust flood control and urban drainage systems, enhancing coastal and inland resilience and optimizing urban planning and infrastructure development to successfully navigate future weather events.

The Forum’s goals include catalysing actionable initiatives, fostering collaborations across sectors, driving impactful solutions through innovative technologies and best practices, and advocating for long-term strategies prioritising sustainability and community well-being. Ultimately, the MENA Climate Proof Forum seeks to create a resilient and sustainable future for MENA countries by addressing climate-related challenges comprehensively.
