The MENA Climate Proof Forum, held on October 28 – 29, 2024, in Dubai, U.A.E., was strategically designed to confront the significant challenges arising from climate change in the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region. Extreme weather events emphasized the urgent need for action in strengthening preparedness, readiness, and recovery from climate-related disasters. This pivotal event focused on stormwater and flood management, sandstorms, heatwaves, fires and tornadoes, all of which have a profound impact on ecosystems, wildlife habitats, and human communities.
At the core of this groundbreaking initiative was the exploration of diverse and innovative solutions to address the region’s wide-ranging challenges resulting from extreme weather events. Discussions were centered around the development of short-term and long-term strategies that included advanced weather forecasting systems to improve readiness, responsive disaster management solutions, robust flood control, urban drainage systems, enhanced coastal and inland resilience, and optimization of urban planning and infrastructure development to successfully navigate future weather events.
The Forum’s successfully catalyzed actionable initiatives, fostering collaborations across sectors, driving impactful solutions through innovative technologies and best practices, and advocating for long-term strategies prioritizing sustainability and community well-being.
